Gila National Forest encompasses the majority of this high-elevation terrain, where deep drainage canyons like Deloche Canyon and Shelton Canyon carve through a landscape of prominent peaks and ridges. High points such as Holt Mtn and Wilcox Peak overlook a network of seasonal springs and cattle tanks, including Whitetail Spring, Midnight Spring, and the CCC Tank. This system of water sources supported the ranching and timber activities central to this corner of Catron County.
