Noatak National Preserve occupies much of this high-latitude terrain, where the headwaters of Makpik Cr flow through the Brooks Range foothills. The landscape is defined by the significant presence of Feniak Lake in the northern portion of the quadrangle, a prominent glacial feature in this arctic environment. The survey also delineates the administrative boundary between the North Slope Borough and the Northwest Arctic Borough. This 2015 study captures the drainage patterns and topographic relief of a remote region where water and landform remain the primary markers of location, largely undisturbed by permanent human settlements or road networks.
