Ross Lake dominates the central corridor of this high-elevation landscape, stretching north toward the international border. The surrounding terrain is defined by dramatic peaks, including the prominent Hozomeen Mountain and Desolation Peak, which look down upon the fjord-like waters. Access is largely oriented around the lake's shoreline, where several remote outposts like the Stromberg Cabin and a series of primitive camps serve those traveling the backcountry. Several designated sites, such as the Little Beaver Campground and Lighting Creek Campground, highlight the long-standing use of this area for wilderness recreation. The drainage network is complex, with Hozomeen Creek and Little Beaver Creek feeding into the main reservoir, while higher alpine basins hold smaller bodies of water like Hozomeen Lake and Ridley Lake.
