Ross Lake dominates this high-elevation wilderness corridor, its waters stretching through the center of the sheet and past Cat Island. The landscape is a intersection of three major protected areas: Mount Baker National Forest to the northeast, North Cascades National Park to the west, and the central Ross Lake National Recreation Area. These boundaries meet among dramatic summits, including the prominent Hozomeen Mtn and the isolated Desolation Peak to the south.
