Henderson Landing and several other small riverfront outposts define the shoreline of the Mississippi River as it winds through New Madrid County. This area is characterized by a complex network of hydrological engineering and natural oxbow formations, where the New Madrid Farrenburg Levee and Conran Dike manage the powerful waters of the central river system. The landscape is dotted with distinct water features such as Hubbard Lake, Stonewall Lake, and the aptly named Washpan Lake, alongside numerous deep depressions like Morrison Hole and Tressle Hole.
