The waters of Lake Saint Croix and the Willow River define this riverfront landscape at the Minnesota-Wisconsin border. On the western bank, a cluster of residential communities including Lakeland, Lakeland Shores, and Saint Marys Point follow the shoreline south toward the village of Afton. The interior reveals a dense concentration of early burial sites and landmarks, from the Daniel Vollmer Cemetery and Rentz Cemetery near the northern corridor to the Mound Prairie Cemetery further south.
