The Altamaha River defines the eastern boundary of this landscape, carving a complex network of wetlands and islands including Kentucky Island and Boyles Island. The city of Jesup occupies the northwestern corner, serving as a hub for the region's transportation network. From the city, the Old Brunswick Hwy and the railway parallel each other southeast through the settlements of Odessa and Gardi before reaching Pendarvis.

Much of the central and eastern terrain is dominated by the Penholoway Swamp, where Penholoway Creek meanders toward the Altamaha. This area is dotted with numerous small lakes and sloughs, such as Gentles Lake, Little Wateroak Round, and Diana Slough. Landmarks like the John Henry Lane Junior Memorial Bridge and the Jesup-Wayne County Airport provide modern anchors to a terrain still largely shaped by its prehistoric river drainage patterns.
