The Ouachita River dominates this delta landscape, winding in deep meanders across the border of Catahoula Parish and Concordia Parish. Near the southern edge of the sheet, four major water bodies—the Little River, the Tensas River, and the Ouachita River—converge to form the Black River. This hydrographic junction is the heart of the region's geography, anchoring the settlements of Jonesville and Trinity, the latter located just north of Tensas Point.

The western portion of the map is largely defined by the Catahoula National Wildlife Refuge, where numerous sloughs and bayous like Bushley Bayou and Gin Slough permeate the lowlands. Higher ground is found at Wallace Ridge, where local history is recorded at sites like McFarlen Cem. Rural life is further evidenced by a dense network of local roads such as Patten Church Rd and Meyers Bend Rd, tracing the idiosyncratic curves of the riverbanks.
