Douglas Island dominates this maritime landscape where the waters of Stephens Passage meet the Gulf of Alaska. The terrain is defined by steep coastal elevations, including Mt Bradley and McDonough Peak, which rise sharply from the shoreline of the Gastineau Channel. Much of the land is preserved within the Tongass National Forest, illustrating a wilderness largely untouched by dense modern development.
