Douglas Island dominates this southeastern Alaskan landscape, where steep mountainsides rise sharply from the waters of Gastineau Channel and Stephens Passage. This area, within the Tongass National Forest, preserves a wilder coastal character south of the modern capital. Significant high points like Mt Bradley and McDonough Peak tower over the shoreline, which is carved by numerous drainages including Ready Bullion Cr and Nevada Cr.
