Kates Basin sits at the heart of this high-elevation landscape, where the drainage systems of the Owl Creek Mountains carve a complex network of canyons and gulches. The terrain is defined by the branching tributaries of Mud Creek, including N Fork Mud Cr, Middle Fork Mud Cr, and S Fork Mud Cr. This 2017 survey documents a largely unpopulated territory along the border of Hot Springs and Fremont Counties, where land use is dictated by the steep topography.
