Point Possession marks the northernmost tip of this landscape, where the tides of Cook Inlet meet a complex network of freshwater lakes and wetlands. The area is dominated by the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and the Kenai Wilderness (Dave Spencer Unit), preserving a mosaic of subarctic terrain defined by glacial remains. High-density clusters of lakes, including Vogel Lake, Bird Lake, and the distinctly named Phalarope Lake, are interconnected by small drainage systems like Miller Creek and Sevenegg Creek.
