About this map

The Aleutian Range dominates the northwestern corner of this landscape, its foothills giving way to a vast expanse of lowland wetlands and river channels on the western shores of Cook Inlet. This environment is defined by the braided path of the Kustatan River, which winds southward across the eastern half of the sheet. To the southwest, the Baghatha Flats represent a significant alluvial plain where Baghatha Creek meanders through saturated terrain. The lack of roads or permanent settlements in this 2018 survey highlights the remote character of the Kenai Peninsula's western coastline, where the land-water interface remains largely shaped by glacial runoff and tidal influence rather than human development.
