Ketchum Buttes and the surrounding high-elevation terrain of Carbon County characterize this landscape as it appeared in the early 21st century. The geography is defined by a series of prominent rises including Rendle Butte, Lone Butte, and the distinctive Rendle Rim. These landmarks overlook an intricate drainage network where Wild Cow Cr and its tributaries, the Middle Fork Wild Cow Cr and S Fork Wild Cow Cr, carve through the basin. In the southeast, Little Savery Cr and Cherokee Cr further define the local hydrography. Human activity is represented by primitive and unpaved routes like McCarty Canyon Rd and Wild Cow Rd, which provide access to Dillon Draw and the various grazing or resource lands typical of this part of southern Wyoming.
