The Middle Fork Homochitto River and its numerous tributaries, such as Guice Cr and Cameron Creek, define the topography of this southern Mississippi landscape. Much of the southern half of the area is occupied by the Homochitto National Forest, where the settlement of Kirby is located along McLemore Rd. North of the forest, the community of Oldenburg serves as a local hub near the Oldenburg Cem. The area is notably dense with small family or community burial grounds, including Mormon Cem, Sixteen Cem, and Seab Cem, reflecting a long history of rural habitation. This network of cemeteries and small-scale roads like Bonus Rd and Bedford Tillman Rd NW provides a clear view of the dispersed settlement patterns and land use common in Franklin and Jefferson Counties during the early 21st century.
