The high desert west of Albuquerque is defined by volcanic features and the sprawling network of modern recreation trails. Much of the northern portion of the map is dedicated to the Petroglyph National Monument, where the Benavidez Spur Trl and various segments of the Mesa Top Multiuse Trail cross the basalt-strewn landscape. These trails overlook significant geological and drainage systems such as Ladera Arroyo and South Rinconada Arroyo.
