Avon Park AF Range dominates much of the central and eastern landscape in this Highlands County survey, reflecting the long-standing military presence in the Florida interior. The terrain is defined by its complex hydrology, where Arbuckle Creek meanders through the western half of the quadrangle, joined by tributaries such as Morgan Hole Creek and Wildcat Branch. These waterways weave through a patchwork of wetlands and flatwoods, most notably the Long Cypress Slash and isolated water bodies like Little Lake and the interestingly named Submarine Lake. The road network is sparse, consisting primarily of rural tracks and ranch roads such as Raffert Ranch Rd and Rafter T Ranch Rd, which suggest a landscape largely dedicated to cattle ranching and military training operations. In the southern reaches, Bonny Bloom Pond and Carter Creek provide further evidence of the region's low-lying, water-dependent geography.
