Ironton and Arcadia anchor the northwestern corner of this study, positioned near the rugged foot of Anderson Mountain and Pilot Knob. This area of the St. Francois Mountains is defined by its deep drainages and notable geologic formations, such as the Shut-Ins along Stouts Creek. Much of the quadrangle is occupied by the Mark Twain National Forest, where high ridges like Crane Mountain and Tims Mountain rise above the surrounding creek valleys.

Genealogists will find a high density of rural burial sites throughout the landscape, including Arcadia Valley Cem, Russell Cem, and Allgier Cem. Religious and recreational hubs are also documented, with the Arcadia Valley Bible Camp and Blue Mountain Methodist Church Camp situated near Lake Killarney. The eastern border follows the Iron and Madison County line, tracing a remote terrain of peaks and hollows that includes Blankenship Mountain and Kelley Mountain.
