Circle Cliffs define the dramatic elevation changes of this Garfield County landscape as it appeared in the late 1980s. Bordered by Dixie National Forest to the west and the edge of Capitol Reef National Park to the northeast, the terrain is a complex system of plateaus and drainages. Higher ground at King Bench and Rattlesnake Bench gives way to deep incisions like Horse Canyon and White Canyon.

Evidence of mineral exploration is scattered throughout the area, marked by a prospect and an adit near the northern boundary. The 1987 survey shows a network of 4wd tracks as the primary means of navigating this remote topography, connecting prominent landmarks like Lamp Stand and the Long Canyon Overlook. The area known as The Flats provides a rare interval of level ground amidst the maze of canyons and benches.
