The settlement of Las Tablas serves as a focal point in this high-altitude landscape of northern New Mexico, situated along the upper reaches of the Rio Tusas. This 2023 survey documents the enduring physical and cultural markers of the region, from the Las Tablas Cem to the remote Petaca Cem further south. The terrain is dominated by the massive Mesa de la Jarita and the prominent peak of Kiowa Mtn, both contained within the protected boundaries of the Carson National Forest.
