Chippewa National Forest encompasses much of this glacial landscape in Itasca County, defined by a dense network of lakes and waterways. The central corridor is dominated by the connected basin of Hanson Lake and Upper Hanson Lake, while the western boundary is marked by the expansive Wabana Lake. The terrain is characterized by numerous smaller named bodies of water with evocative local names such as Big Rain Barrel Lake, Tadpole Lake, and Skeeter Lake.
