The dramatic bends of the Ohio River dominate this mid-century survey of the borderlands between Crawford County, Indiana, and Meade County, Kentucky. The landscape is defined by massive river meanders known as Big Bend and Oxbow Bend, where the water wraps around significant lowlands like Paradise Bottom. Much of the Indiana side is preserved within the Harrison-Crawford State Forest, creating a mosaic of timbered ridges and hollows such as Popkins Hollow and Cedar Branch.

Local life is centered on the river's edge at Leavenworth and near the historic Lock No 44. Rural infrastructure from the early 1950s is still visible, including the Peckenpaugh Sch, Potato Run Ch, and isolated river access points like Schooner Point Landing. The confluence of the Blue River and the Ohio provides a natural anchor for the small community of Wyandotte and the nearby Blue River Chapel.
