1991 Map of Lemay Island

USGS Topo · Published 1992

About this map

Lemay Island rises as a prominent landmark above the surrounding mud flats in this remote section of the eastern Great Basin. Surveyed through the late 1980s, the landscape is defined by the terminal drainage of Grouse Creek, which disappears into the broad Grouse Creek Sinks. The hydrological pattern of the area is characterized by intermittent flows like Miry Wash, illustrating how water moves across these arid desert basins toward the Great Salt Lake desert. To the northeast, the Little Pigeon Mountains provide topographic relief, while the southern margin of the sheet captures the rugged northern reaches of the Silver Island Mts and Crater Island. This map reveals the stark isolation of the territory, where only scattered 4wd tracks provide access through the vast alkali flats and seasonal washes.
