1965 Map of Lemhi Pass

About this map

Lemhi Pass serves as a critical juncture in the high mountain country along the Continental Divide, where the border between Lemhi County, Idaho, and Beaverhead County, Montana, is defined by the sharp ridgelines of the Bitterroot Range. This mid-1960s survey documents a landscape focused on resource extraction and early mountain recreation, centered on the historic passage through the peaks. To the west, the Salmon National Forest is drained by Agency Creek and Horseshoe Bend Creek, while the eastern slopes of the Beaverhead National Forest feed the North Fork Everson Creek. Evidence of mineral exploration is scattered across the slopes, most notably at the Copper Queen Mine and numerous high-altitude prospects. The presence of the Sacajawea Memorial Camp near the summit marks the area's cultural significance, while the Selway Ranch represents the isolated agricultural presence in the lower eastern valleys.
