The glacial legacy of the Kettle Moraine dominates this portion of Walworth County, where the complex terrain of the State Forest meets a chain of recreation-oriented waters. To the south, the Lauderdale Lakes group—comprising Green Lake, Middle Lake, and Mill Lake—forms a dense cluster of bays and islands including Deakin Island and Long Point. Further north, the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railroad cuts through Palmyra, passing the waters of Blue Spring Lake.

Rural life in the mid-20th century is preserved through several small crossroads settlements and community landmarks. Researchers can locate the Battle Creek Sch and historical burial sites like Skoponong Cem and Round Prairie Cem. While the area around Little Prairie and La Grange remains largely agricultural, the appearance of a Country Club and the Sportsman Center suggests the area's increasing transition toward seasonal tourism and outdoor recreation.
