Chatfield State Park dominates the southern half of this landscape, centered on the massive Chatfield Lake and its surrounding network of equestrian and nature trails. The South Platte River cuts northward through the center of the sheet, feeding into a dense complex of water bodies including South Platte Reservoir, Cooley Lake, and the bird-named waters of Eaglewatch Lake and Bufflehead Lake. The transition from the developed residential corridors of Littleton and Columbine to the open recreational and agricultural lands further south is sharp, delineated by the W Co Line Rd boundary.
