The settlement at Longdale Furnace occupies a narrow valley where Simpson Cr cuts between the steep ridges of Mill Mtn and North Mtn. This landscape is defined by the intersection of industrial heritage and conservation, with the George Washington National Forest and Jefferson National Forest encompassing much of the terrain. The presence of White Rock Tower on the heights and Colemans Tunnel along the northwestern edge suggests the historical infrastructure required to navigate and extract resources from this part of the Alleghenies. Small communities like Nicelytown and Griffith are connected by a network of winding roads, including Longdale Furnace Rd and State Rte 850.
