Amity Mine and the Independent Mine mark the extraction history of this high-elevation landscape in the early 1990s. Located within the Ochoco National Forest, the terrain is defined by the sharp rise of Lookout Mountain and the distinct volcanic profile of Winter Butte. To the east, the landscape opens into the broad expanse of Big Summit Prairie, where water sources like Cram Creek and Johnson Creek provide drainage for the surrounding timberlands.
