Meade River snakes through this portion of the North Slope, defining the hydrologic character of the Arctic coastal plain. The landscape is dominated by a complex network of thaw lakes and the meandering course of Piksiksak Cr, which drains the tundra within the Public Land Survey System divisions of t7n r21w and t8n r21w. This 2020 USGS survey provides a baseline of the permafrost-influenced terrain before further shifts in Arctic hydrology occur, showing the intricate relationship between the braided river channels and the countless small water bodies that dot the northern Alaska interior.
