The San Francisco River winds through the high-altitude landscape of eastern Apache County, Arizona, and western Catron County, New Mexico. At the heart of this high-country terrain lies Luna Lake, a significant water feature surrounded by a network of seasonal springs and drainage systems like Stone Cr and Bob Thomas Cr. The area is characterized by dramatic elevation shifts, ranging from the prominent Escudilla Mtn in the north to the rugged south where Indian Peak overlooks Mother Hubbard Canyon and K E Canyon.
