Lybrook serves as the primary point of settlement in this arid corner of the San Juan Basin, where the high desert terrain of Northwest New Mexico meets the boundary between Rio Arriba Co and Sandoval Co. The landscape is defined by a complex drainage system including the Blanco Wash and the sprawling Betonnie Tsosie Wash, which carve through the high mesas and canyons. These seasonal watercourses are central to the region's character, providing the only relief in a landscape otherwise marked by features like Hutton Canyon and Escrito Canyon.
