The Reese River defines the western edge of this Nevada landscape, winding through a complex network of seasonal wetlands and drainage channels. This 2021 survey of the Manhattan Mountain NE region highlights the transition from the high-desert basins to the rising slopes of the surrounding ranges. Central to the area is the expansive Carico Lake Valley, where the drainage from Hall Cr and Willis Cr collects in the low-lying terrain. The solitary Carico Valley Rd provides the primary access across the flats, cutting through a landscape marked by scattered water sources like Burro Spring. To the southeast, the terrain begins to rise toward the mountains as Iowa Cr flows down from the higher elevations, illustrating the stark water-driven geography of the Lander County interior.
