About this map

The settlement of Margaret serves as the central point of this North Texas study, located just south of the Pease River in the early 1980s. This region is defined by a series of drainage systems, including Raggedy Creek, Hackberry Creek, and Mule Creek, which carve through the plains toward the river valley. The landscape is notably interrupted by Raggedy Mountain and the northeastern corner of Copper Breaks State Park, which preserves the distinctive red bed canyons and breaks characteristic of the area. Industrial activity is indicated by several Gravel Pits northwest of the townsite. The map captures the rural transition of Hardeman Co and Foard Co, showing a network of unimproved roads and an engineered Levee that reflect local efforts to manage the volatile flow of the Pease River and its tributaries.
