About this map

The coastal urban center of Mayagüez and the inland town of Hormigueros anchor this western Puerto Rico landscape. Along the shoreline of the Bahía de Mayagüez, industrial and maritime history is visible at Playa Depot and Marina Concordia, while the Yaguez Diving and Fishing Club marks the mouth of the Rio Yagüez. The terrain transitions from the densely gridded streets of the city to the alluvial plains and hills to the south.

Several smaller communities and landmarks provide local context, including Baja Mondongo and the agricultural legacy of Central Rochelaise. The hydrologic network is a defining feature, with the Río Guanajibo and Río Hondo flowing toward the coast near Laguna Joyuda. Numerous named reefs and shoals, such as Arrecife Algarrobo and Escollo Rodríguez, illustrate the complexity of the nearby Caribbean Sea waters.
