The Wrangell Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape in the Copper River Census Area, where glacial movement and geological forces define the terrain. Vast ice fields including the Copper Glacier, Nabesna Glacier, and Kluvesna Glacier represent the massive frozen water systems that have sculpted these peaks over millennia. This 2023 edition reflects the ongoing federal oversight of the region within the Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and the even more strictly preserved Wrangell-St. Elias Wilderness. Unlike settled areas of Alaska, this map shows a landscape devoid of roads or permanent structures, illustrating the raw, primitive character of one of North America's most protected alpine environments. The lack of infrastructure highlights the extreme environmental conditions and the preservation of the landscape in its natural state.
