Peard Bay dominates the northern half of this North Slope coastal survey, where the Beaufort Sea meets the Arctic shoreline. The landscape is defined by the sharp transition at Peard Cliff, a prominent coastal formation that separates the open waters of the bay from the thermokarst-pocked tundra to the south. This remote stretch of the Alaska coast shows the complex hydrology of the region, where numerous unnamed thaw lakes and ponds are situated just inland from the sea.
