The settlement of Melo stands at the northern edge of this Goliad County landscape, where the coastal prairie is dissected by an intricate network of seasonal drainages and creek branches. Much of the local geography is defined by the winding course of Sarco Cr, which receives flow from tributaries including Elkins Br and Buzzard Br as they move through the undulating terrain. To the west, the land is marked by Keys Hollow and the headwaters of Arroyocita Cr, showing a pastoral environment where cattle ranching has long been the primary activity.
