The Koyukuk River dominates the southwestern corner of this interior Alaska landscape, winding through a complex network of wetlands and seasonal watercourses. This reach of the river is characterized by dramatic meanders and the secondary flow of Batza Slough, reflecting the dynamic hydrology of the Yukon-Koyukuk region. To the east, the terrain rises sharply toward Deniktaw Ridge, a prominent landform that defines the local topography and drainage patterns. The drainage of Hot Springs Cr flows through the southeastern portion of the quadrangle, carving through the upland areas before reaching the lower river valley. This survey captures a remote wilderness area defined by the tension between high-relief ridges and the broad, shifting alluvial plains of the Koyukuk basin.
