About this map

The southeastern outskirts of Bismarck and the surrounding prairie landscape are defined by the convergence of major rail lines and meandering waterways in the early 1950s. The Northern Pacific and the Minneapolis St Paul and Sault Ste Marie railroads cut through the terrain, supporting the transport economy of Burleigh County. Much of the southern portion of the map is shaped by the wide loops of Apple Creek, which flows past the small settlement of Pierce and a prominent Gaging Station.
