The dense urban center of Meriden and its industrial outskirts are captured here during a period of significant highway expansion in the late 1960s. The map illustrates the town's complex relationship with its topography, where the developed valley is hemmed in by the dramatic trap rock ridges of Lamentation Mtn and West Peak. In the city center, civic and social landmarks such as City Hall, the Armory, and the State School for Boys are clearly defined.
