The rugged gulches and ridges of the Black Hills National Forest define this 2015 survey, where the small settlement of Rochford sits at the southern edge near the confluence of N Fork Rapid Cr and Irish Gulch. The landscape is dominated by steep topographic relief, rising to the prominent Custer Peak in the northwest. A complex network of Forest Service roads, including Custer Crossing Rd and its many numbered branches, provides access through the heavily wooded terrain of Minnesota Ridge.
