The Illinois River cuts through the eastern portion of this Cherokee County landscape, where terrain features like Hanging Rock, Eagles Bluff, and Peavine Hollow define the river's path. This 2012 survey illustrates the rural character of communities such as Moodys, Lowrey, and Teresita, where the settlement pattern is deeply connected to local genealogy. Numerous burial grounds are identified across the area, including Teresita Cem, Moodys Cem, Agent Cem, and Molly Field Cem, the latter situated near Molly Field Hollow. Water resources are abundant, from the Fourteen Mile Cr Site 1 Reservoir to the natural flow of Fourteenmile Cr and Pumpkin Spring. The road network consists largely of section-line routes and rural roads, with Combs Bridge providing a key crossing over the river near Ellerville.
