The Snake River forms a natural boundary between Malheur County, Oregon, and Washington County, Idaho, weaving through a landscape of river flats and complex drainage systems. Within the river's path lie Westlake Island and McRea Island, while the surrounding terrain is defined by low-lying areas like West Weiser Flat and Lower Dead Ox Flat. Parts of the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge extend into this riverine environment, preserving a critical habitat area amidst the agricultural and water management infrastructure.
