Red Rocks Amphitheater sits at the geological transition where the high plains meet the Front Range, flanked by massive sandstone formations like Creation Rock and Ship Rock. This landscape is defined by the prominent North-South Hogback and Dinosaur Ridge, which separate the suburban expansion of Lakewood from the canyons to the west. The 2011 survey shows a dense network of residential developments such as Crestview Villa and Green Mountain Village pressing against the preserved natural space of Bear Creek Lake Park.
