The Blind River and Petite Amite River dominate this low-lying wetland landscape at the convergence of Livingston, Ascension, St. James, and St. John the Baptist Parishes. The complex network of water features includes both natural bayous and human-engineered waterways like the New River Canal, Bourgeois Canal, and Hope Canal, which cut through the cypress-tupelo swamp environment. Subtle topographic variations appear at Sarah Ridge and the bend known as Devils Elbow.
