About this map

Mount Baird and Elkhorn Peak anchor this high-elevation landscape within the Targhee National Forest along the Idaho-Wyoming border. Mapped in the mid-1960s, the area is defined by the steep drainage systems of Big Elk Creek and Little Elk Creek as they flow into the northeastern reaches of the Palisades Reservoir. Human activity is concentrated near the shoreline, where the YMCA Camp and Big Elk Creek Campground mark the transition from the water's edge to the wilderness.
