The Mollie Beattie Wilderness and parts of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge define this remote North Slope landscape. The terrain is characterized by a series of dramatic mountain ridges and broad glacial valleys, including the Shublik Mountains in the north and the Third Range toward the center. This topographical pattern creates a natural corridor through the Ikiakpaurak Valley and the Ikiakpuk Valley, where seasonal drainage systems like Cache Creek and Eagle Creek meander across the valley floors.
