1965 Map of Mountain Falls

USGS Topo · Published 1976

About this map

Great North Mountain and Little North Mountain dominate this mid-1960s survey of the Virginia and West Virginia borderlands. The landscape is defined by the sharp ridges of the George Washington National Forest, where narrow hollows like Polebridge Hollow and Poplar Hollow separate prominent heights including Johnnies Knob and The Half Moon. Settlement is concentrated in the lower elevations along winding watercourses, most notably at Star Tannery and Mountain Falls.
