The Ferris Mountains dominate the southern portion of this high-country landscape, rising sharply above the canyon floors. At the center of the sheet, the Red Hills flank the pass at Muddy Gap, a critical drainage point where Muddy Cr and Big Camp Cr converge. This intersection of topography and hydrology has long made the area a natural corridor for movement through the region.
