About this map

Little Salt Spring and the winding course of Big Slough define the northern reaches of this coastal Florida landscape before the rapid expansion of mid-century development. While earlier surveys show a terrain dominated by wetlands and flowing wells, the 1970 photorevisions reveal the planned grid of North Port Charlotte and the extensive network of the Cocoplum Waterway. This era represents a significant transformation of the watershed, where the natural drainage of the Myakka River basin meets the engineered canals of new residential blocks.
